FPS - Fondazione Pisana per la Scienza
Inside the building, located in San Giuliano Terme, genomic and proteomic research activities are carried out in the fields of neuroscience through very high-tech instruments (power lasers, confocal microscopes, mass spectrometers, etc.) which required the study of specific structural and plant engineering solutions for their correct functioning. Currently, studies on anti-Covid monoclonal antibodies are also being carried out within the Research Center.

The covered area of the building is approx. 2700 m2 on an area of approximately 10,000 m2. It is spread over two floors which house the entrance, the administrative offices, the researchers' offices, common areas and an auditorium on the ground floor and research laboratories, also with high biological containment, and spaces of "cultural contamination" on the first floor . The research center is structurally built in elevation with innovative "dry" technologies that contribute to a more sustainable architecture made up of glulam beams and pillars, laminated glulam floors, Xlam panel elevator shaft and steel perimeter terraces. The building is in energy class A2. All the structures, except for the foundations, were produced in the factory and then assembled on site, increasing precision and reducing construction times. The total duration of the construction site, in fact, was one year and seven months.
